A large part of the mission at safe Haven is to touch the lives of people and dog companions through a life changing program.
Everyone deserves a second chance. Others just need assistance transitioning from military to civilian life.
That’s where Safe Haven comes in. It’s a great community trying to learn to manage their behavior in a way that will keep them out of the penial system, while learning life skills and team skills along the journey.
Whether you were in the military, serving time in incarceration, or need help getting your life back on track it’s a great way to reach your goals. Fortunately animals – dogs in particular can be part of your adjustment to civilian life, part of your recovery, or part of your structure and discipline to keep away from repeating bad choices in the future.
Skills can be mastered quickly and effectively with proper training and that’s what we’re here to provide you.
With the help of a support group you can stop the cycle, whether on work release or simply looking for a great way to add structure to your life. Essentially you can come to Safe Haven and help clean kennels, and do other necessary rescue work while making strong friendships along the way.
Presently we’re setup in NE Indiana, near the Fort Wayne area, and work with an assortment of people looking for a better way of life, including men, women, young and old alike.
Some of the challenges you may face and skills you will need to learn is to make progress within the first 6 weeks of the program to show you are truly committed to the process. The typical program lasts 2o weeks total.
Our program is open to most folks looking to improve their lives, although, we do not presently accept applicants with a history of sexual offenses. Most dog breeds are welcome, and are reviewed on a case by case basis.
